MarketSmith had a very vibrant online community where people actively participated in blogs and forums, shared best practices, market observations, etc. Now, it's seems to be just full of crickets and people suggesting junk stocks...such a pity.
Maybe this is because the market was difficult for growth investor recently and not many people are left. I always feel like I am alone in this business. I will be happy if one day this is will change. Also before Scott O' Neil had a blog and it was extremely interesting to watch his thoughts about the market. Now MarketSmith team is not active as well.
Used to be able to add a Chart to Blog Post, but that's been broken for a while, which makes it much less useful to post here...
It still works. The functionality is there. the principles are the same. I suppose that the growth investors where not familiar with chart patterns or they shifted to quick swing trading. they wanted immediate results and could not hold for the long haul (12 to 52 weeks or so).
what happened to the O'Neil's, anyone know why they are not around?
Bill retired as he is in his 80s and Scott is running the entire family of brands which is a lot larger than just IBD and MarketSmith.
Some forums are clunky and just not good for ongoing interaction. For you canslim, non penny stock investors, I suggest you join the Tacoma IBD meetup group, and then follow the instructions to join the Tacoma Skype chatroom. Once you have access to the chat room, you can participate or just read and observe at first. Some very good rule based disciplined canslim traders in there and very educational. You just have to go through Tacoma and Heather as she moderates and keeps people on track. It is the best ongoing active educational/investing resource I have found.
I have no facts to back this up but I have a hunch that the reason the online community has shrunk is the last few years have been tough for CANSLIM and buying break-outs. Many traders that posted here became discouraged.
I also believe a community can only stay vibrant if it is dynamic and open. I have noticed a distinct tendency among many so called followers of O'Neil to be very rigid about the system and critical of anyone that ventures to look at things with a questioning mind.
I love the MarketSmith tool and I love the Growth 250. But I believe IBD needs the N of CANSLIM - new ideas, new leadership, new approaches.
I consider my self a very cautious investor making less than 10 trades per year. I've paid for my membership several times over. My current position opened 4-18-17 is TRVG and it has paid for my first marketsmith subscription. So, I know other strategies are out there but I also know three of my investing friends get distracted and their returns suffer. So, I like IBD and marketsmith.
