I have found what I believe to be an interesting precedent for NVDA's current base and I wanted to get some feedback and see if anyone else shares this opinion. I've been looking at Franklin Resource's (BEN) from 11/1/1985. To me, it has a similar shape to NVDA. Three waves down, with the first wave looking sloppy, and the next two tightening up a bit.

BEN formed what appeared to be a climax top shortly after breaking out of a cup/flag pattern. Consolidated it's move and then went substantially higher. This also resembles NVDA after breaking out of a short and shallow flat base and then pausing for three weeks in November/December 2016 and forming a climactic top.

NVDA's monthly chart also shows what appears to be a longer term flag pattern and it appears to have taken that high out today with it's strong earnings release.

Anyways, food for thought that might provide some interesting discussion.
