When is a cup not a cup?

MS:  How short can a consolidation be and still be called a cup?  The new PR software labels GOLD's  most recent, 6 week long, consolidation a "cup".  I understood that the minimum length of a cup was seven (7) weeks.  Can you clarify this?  Thanks. Brad.

The logic behind cup patterns in the Pattern Recognition software allows for 6 week cups since many of our historical models as well as Bill O'Neil's definition in the book "The Successful Investor" required a minimum of six weeks. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions or you can consult the Pattern Recognition user manual here: http://www.marketsmith.com/special/MS_PatternRecManual.pdf
