After a week of use, I'm pretty impressed with this software! Kudos to the developers
Awesome Software! This is such a huge step forward for IBD. Being able to manage lists of charts like this is so key to managing your stocks. I hope that this is included in our subscription of premium charts and will not be another costly add on. It is so nice to be able to keep running notes on our charts like this and create unlimited lists. It really allows us to tap into the depth of IBD data and apply it rather than looking into many different places to find it. In addition, i love the fact that it is web based and i can run it from any browser on any computer i might be on. I have been using Worden Brothers Telechart (for many years) in conjunction with IBD premium charts, but MarketSmith if it continues on this path may make my Worden brothers software obsolete. This is what Premium chart software should be!
Agreed. This is one heck of a robust tool.
Yes, this is a professional tool, your own cockpit.
Thanks IBD!
This is BS...I run scans on Marketsmith and then the EXACT same scan on Dailygraphs...And the results don't match...First thing that comes to mind is that the Marketsmith database is larger...OK...So how come I get more tickers that meet the criteria at Dailygraphs?
Seems to me that the beta test is not over.
Sme here - results from marketsmith and dailygraphs scans are indeed different.
I got a vm from the MS staff which I appreciate...So I ran 10 different scans on marketsmith and dailygraphs and they all matched this time.
I'm wondering if an update might have been going on when it happened the other night?...Or I guess it is possible that I screwed up altho I did run a number of simple scans.
Anyway, I'm going to get into marketsmith a little deeper over the weekend and I'll write down any discrepencies if I find any and let you know.
Thanx, Doug
PS...I am mostly a technical trader and altho I've used DG since the 80's for only a few things I do appreciate some of the additional screen criteria you have added.
doug: i did notice that some of the screening criteria have changed from DGO to MS. There is no checkbox for the "price in relation to 52 week high" in MS if you want a stock trading at or above its 52 week high. In DGO, there was a checkbox. Could that have been the discrepancy or somethin like it? Since you mentioned it, ive been on the lookout for differences b/t screens...haven't found any yet...keep us posted if you would.
Yes...I've noticed that too soccer.
OK...I will document some of what I found...I'll use the abbreviations DGO and MS.
First off DGO and MS both start out with 6690 stocks...You can see that at DGO by just running a scan of all stocks w/ RS 1 to 99.
Now, if I run a scan of A, B group RS 60 to 69 I get 285 at MS and 281 at DGO.
But look at this...Huge difference on a one criteria scan:
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/5033/dgoms1.jpg
MS has over 250 more symbols.
But then I ran another scan.
You can see the criteria on DGO here:
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/2082/dgo1.jpg
And the criteria on MS in the next 2 screen shots
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/5033/dgoms1.jpg
http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/4223/dgoms2.jpg
Now the criteria used looks the same to me...But if I'm missing something please let me know.
Anyway, this time DGO came up w/ 115 and MS only 109...However, 8 symbols were on DGO only and 2 symbols were on MS only.
Unless I'm doing something wrong here it seems to me that the beta test is not over...Thanx, Doug
The results you mention and the images posted certainly piques my curiosity. It would be more useful to see actual examples at the ticker level and then compare the criteria values on both systems. Are the values the same for these sysmbols on both systems or are they different? For example it may be that for symbol xyz the RS is 80 on one system and 78 on another.
Well...I figure the MS people get paid to do this but on the example where DGO had 115 and MS had 109 I'll give you the symbols which I saved in case anyone asked:
MS had RIC,TGB which did not come up on the DGO scan.
DGO had AIMC,AMCC,CGC,DIVX,HUBG,NGD,UTIW,VSI which did not come up on the MS scan.
Seems to me, unless these are not identical scans which MS can verify that there is some sort of software or programming glitch as I'm pretty positive there is only one master database at IBD.
I run A LOT of scans at Stockcharts.com and sometimes I find glitches there and let them know...They always fix them...Usually seems to be something w/ programming.

Thanks for listing the symbols. Could you also show the criteria values for just 1 symbol that is in one list but not the other?
Rick...I'm not planning on looking for any more problems today...I'll call this IBD guy tomorrow who left me a vm on Friday.
However, I looked at AIMC on both MS and DGO...It doesn't come up on the MS scan but the charts and info at both MS and DGO look the same to me.
I also ran another simple scan at both... RS 88...In this case DGO came up w/ one more...at least the scan indicated that...But when I clicked Display Results DGO actually had the same number of symbols.
So there seems to be a few technical glitches here.
I guess I became a beta tester in May...But I didn't look at MS much and I have not read any instructions or viewed any of videos...Seems pretty simple to use though. I contacted IBD early last week to see if DGO was going to go away...I got an eventualy type answer...So I figured I better come over here...I do like some of the additional scan criteria.
Another thing I like at MS is that the .csv files download fast...At DGO when I upgraded to Office 2007 on 3 different computers last year it started taking forever for the .csv to open and I always got a warning...And if I had another .xls worksheet open...Forget it...I could go make myself a cup of coffee.
One thing though is that they made it a little more difficult to copy/paste something off the screen...I understand why they did that and it really isn't all that necessary but I am copying some of the scan descriptions so I can read them at my leisure.
We'll see what MS comes up w/ this week...Best, Doug
FYI...It appears that MS has fixed the problem today...Doug
Update...No problems found last week...Well, Gotta decide whether to stick w/ Dailygraphs or switch to Marketsmith by 10/15.
It's really a no brainer...MS is far superior.
IBD says that DGO will eventually be discontinued...probably waiting to see how many DGO subscribers decide not to switch to MS???...But I really cannot imagine why anyone would not switch.
