Newbie Question on IPO Filings?
by anishsikri (85) Joined on 04/26/2010 Posts: 5

Hey,

How is it going everyone, I would like to know what happens when IPO Filings are done.  Obvious thought comes to mind is the potential Facebook IPO offering.

Does it mean the stock is publicly traded immediately when it files for an IPO? or there is some time in between the filings and before the Ticker symbol/shares go public on the trading day?

I am not able to find the right answer for this (especially on SEC's site), so thoughts/answers are definitely appreciated.

Thanks,

there will be some time between filing and when it starts trading. You will see it in the news when it will start trading publically. the day it starts trading it will have a symbol and usually the time will be announced when it will start to trade.

Hi,

The normal process is to have a delay. If you listen to the pundits, they're indicating that the common person can get some at the filing. How ? not sure.

If you follow the process that we use in MS and IBD, you should always wait for the first base to develop.

Hope this helps,

-Tom

Hi,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I absolutely agree on buying IPO stocks only after there is a good IPO Base or a proper first base.

At least now I know that after they file the papers for IPO, there is some time in between when it goes public.

Thank you,
