pasting symbols on Mac
by spartian8k9 (510) Joined on 10/08/2010 Posts: 39

I can't seem to get the paste function to work on my Mac.  I'm using Chrome and the latest Excel.

Any hints???

None here. I'm not familiar with how this functions on the MAC.

Sorry, Tom

try command C to copy and command V to paste. Silverlight doesnt like the right click way.

I've tried that.  for both command-v and control-v, It wants to pull up the Visa symbol V up top.  It's the same on Safari, but I haven't tried Firefox yet.  I was wondering if other Mac people have gotten it to work.  There could be some simple selection inside of the silverlight interface that I'm not doing.

According to the instructions, I just have to select the list that I want to add the symbols and then paste them in.

Oh Well - Thanks Again,

@spartian8k9: Unfortunately, we are unable to duplicate this issue using a Mac. As a suggestion, once you select the desired list in MarketSmith that you want to paste the symbols into, please make sure that you click inside of the list panel before hitting Command + V.

If you continue to encounter this issue, please submit a technical form by going to the following link: http://www.marketsmith.com/ContactUs/Default.aspx. With this information, we will gladly assist you further.

Additionally, MarketSmith is not officially considered a supported browser type for use with MarketSmith and there may be issues when using Chrome that do not occur within Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.

hi again,  I finally fired up Firefox on my mac and got the same results.  When I press command-v, I get Visa up at the top.

when you say click inside of the list panel, do you really mean the list contents panel, because according to the help the list panel is technically the whole list area: the list toolbar, the list headers, the list contents, the list manager, and the list properties.

Also, is this suppose to work with data straight out of excel or something more simple like csv list?  I did notice that sometimes, I do get the csv list to show up in ticker box at the top.

My guess is that the 'focus' of the app is not on the correct component.

I guess I will submit a ticket later today.

Thanks,

-spartian

p.s.  my guess is that there's going to be lots of issues around things that work just fine in Internet explorer and don't really work anywhere else.  this behavior is clearly consistent between all three of my setups: Chrome, Safari, and Firefox.

It would be interesting to know if this works for any mac user.

I did get ahold of David, I think that was his name, and he could get it to work on a computer at Marketsmith. He suggested that I might have mapped my paste key combo in the system preferences which is possible. This could either be on a system level or a by program level. if it was a system issue then I couldn't paste anywhere. While checking into that I did play with my settings for Flash because I have those locked down. I did manage to get it to work, i.e. pasting into a list from excel on a mac, for later that day, but still can't get it to repeat. My guess is that might be coincident. -spartian

this continues to be an issue for myself. no real fix. I've gotten it to work by doing some combination of moves, but I can't say what they are. If someone figures it out, or it works for you it would be nice to hear that either way. I did call into MS support and they made it work on their computer. -spartian

I've moved over from Chrome to Firefox to see if this would work and it continues to be a problem. I think I have basically opened my system up to any possible Adobe Flash virus by opening up my security settings so that any site can do what ever they want to my computer and I still can't paste symbols into MS....It would be nice to have a guide as to exactly what settings are required to make MarketSmith work. -spartian

p.s. is there a simple way to get a simple paragraph in the forums posts??? Even thought I put in a break, it seems to scrunch it all together. Thanks...

update, it looks like it is working for me today.

I was using Safari today, and the multiple selection actually worked. that is if I click on a ticker in one of my lists, I could hold down the shift key and arrow down to get a multiple selection.

this lead me to try to paste in a list an it worked.

-spartian.

p.s. I guess rather than replying I have to add a comment to get somekind of formatting and regular paragraphs. (hopefully...)

the new iPad version is very nice, but I still have the same problem on my Mac. I'm going to upgrade to Lion, but I'm not getting any warm and fuzzies that anyone at IBD or MS actually uses a mac for anything other than taking marketing photos.
